A Special Announcement
Stephanie & Stuart

                                      Stuart & Stephanie
It is a joyous day in the house of Judy & Steve Smith.  O Happy Day !!

During the summer mission "season" Stephanie had to be gone quite a bit from Mexico back at home in Missouri.  Her mom and dad was under the impression she was home completing work on her Masters degree.  Little did they know love was brewing.

The entire romance story was shared in Mexico at the Squatters Camp school during a special Sunday morning worship service.  The service was in full swing and Stephanie leans to her mom and says "Stuart is the one for me" ... dad didn't have a clue as to what was happening.  As she broke the news to her mom and moms mouth fell wide open she snapped a picture of Judy.  The Mexicans in the congregation probably thought Judy was having a "spell" ... and dad was completly in the dark.

God has blessed our lives with a wonderful family.  Our parents live nearby, God has blessed us with three wonderful adult kids, we have the joy of having Aby from Matamoros in our home, not to mention three of the best four legged "kids" (dogs)  you could ask for ... and now God has really blessed!

How wonderful it is to be welcoming Mr. Stuart Dace into our family.  He and Stephanie have recently become engaged.  A May 2009 date is being set for the wedding and plans are underway for a seperate reception in Mexico.  Stuart and Stephanie both have experienced the call of God on their lives to be involved in some form of missions.  They are simply trying to be obedient and following the direction that the Lord Jesus directs them into.

Judy is excited and Steve is beside himself.  God has blessed and we are very thankful!

Praise The Lord !!!

ANUNCIO ESPECIAL
STEPHANIE Y STUART

Thank you to Jose Luis for his excellent translation ... he and Mimi also send their congratulations!

A Man With A God Sized Vision ... A Man Of Faith

The very first Sunday we were in Mexico for the summer we went to the tent church of Pastor Jose.  It had been raining, the field where the tent was located was muddy, the roads leading to the tent were filled with water.  We went to the tent church because we wanted to personally visit with and observe this church in action on a "normal" Sunday.

We arrived at 10:00 and no one was at the church.  It was raining.  We waited a few minutes and Pastor Jose arrived at the site.  Church begins at 10:30 he said.  A few minutes later through all the weeds and in the rain the families started arriving for the worship service.  There might have been 30 people there that day in the rain.  The rain, walking in the mud, sitting on the wet benches ... it wasn't going to stop them from coming to the tent church for worship.

The testimony of what God is doing with Pastor Jose is tremendous.  How God has provided property for a church, how God has provided resources and the vision that God has put in the heart of Pastor Jose is "God Sized."

Focus On Missions spent a large part of the summer working with Pastor Jose and his congregation.  We will continue working with him through the Christmas mission trip.  Many groups this summer invested time, effort, physical work and finances in the work of Pastor Jose.   Last spring we began praying about and seeking Gods direction and leadership in our involvement with Pastor Jose.  God divinely brought together resources to meet the needs of Pastor Jose.

Shown above in the pictures is a picture of the tent where the worship services are held.  The middle picture is of Pastor Jose and about 20 other members of the church in one of the five vans that was donated to five pastors this summer.  The picture on the right is a 12x20 resource center with two 10x20 lean too porches on each side and a 30x40 cement patio surrounding the building.  A resource center that provides a place for Bible studies, recreation, fellowships and storage.

In addition to the resource center and the van ... other teams fenced the property, conducted evangelistic gospel fiestas, played many soccer games, cut grass, painted and mixed a ton of cement!

This Christmas we are hoping to be pouring a cement patio to place the tent on that will eventually be the floor for a new church building.

What God did in Matamoros!

English Classes at the Squatters Camp School
What an awesome opportunity.  For two weeks we were able to go into the public school at the Squatters Camp and teach English to about 300 4th, 5th and 6th graders.  That was 300 kids every day for two weeks. The Focus teams were able to work one on one with the kids, make new friends, represent the Mision Bautista Betesda around the corner from the school, sponsor a day at the LaQuinta Water Park for the 5th and 6th graders and conduct a Sunday worship service on the grounds of the school.  Concord Baptist from Jefferson City made sure every student received a Spanish New Testament and a "Jesus Te Ama" backpack.  God was glorified, His message proclaimed, His church strengthened, and Pastor Modesto with many new prospects to visit and to share Christ with.

Construction
The Focus On Missions teams were busy this summer with building houses, the resource center for Pastor Jose, bathrooms at the medical clinic, putting up fences and mixing the never ending cement.  Not only do the teams provide the man power for the construction they also bring the finances for the construction.  Praise The Lord for the many who come to work and those who give financially to make to make the resources possible for the construction projects.

The City Dump
Each week we tried to take the Focus teams to the City Dump and minister to those who live and work there.  Many of these are Christians who are the poorest of the poor.  Each week we would take water, beans and rice, sometimes shoes.  Hurricane Dolly really hurt these people.  We were able to take additional food and water.  What a blessing it is to work with and know these people who daily live and work at the Matamoros City Dump.

Hurricane Dolly
Little did we know at the beginning of the summer why we had one week in the middle of the summer with no team.  That week was "reserved" for Hurricane Dolly.  Fortunately for our friends and coworkers in Matamoros the eye of the hurricane was north.  The worst damage was flooding.  We were very saddened when we went by the Squatters Camp school and saw the area where we had taught English and the canopy that had been demolished by Dolly.  Focus On Missions was busy delivering relief supplies to churches and pastors who would distribute to their congregations and those who lived nearby.  Much thanks to those who contributed to purchase food and water to be shared with the hurricane and flood victims.
